Donald Trump achieved a landslide victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, which left political forecaster Allan Lichtman stunned.
Despite his prediction that Harris would win and become the first woman president, Trump’s triumph contradicted his forecast.
During a six-hour YouTube livestream, Lichtman expressed disbelief and frustration, saying, “I don’t get it,” as Trump moved to victory.
He called the situation a blow to democracy stating that once lost, democracy is nearly impossible to recover often requiring dictators to lose wars for recovery.
Lichtman, a historian and creator of the "Keys to the White House" prediction model had predicted Harris' win based on historical patterns arguing that governance, not campaigning, determines elections.
His system had correctly predicted every election since 1984 even when contrary to popular opinion. Although he expressed concern over the state of democracy, Lichtman encouraged young people to continue striving for progress.
