Suriya's Karna Shelved After Kanguva Setback

Suriya’s latest release, Kanguva, has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, and its underwhelming box office performance has reportedly led to the shelving of his upcoming mythological project, Karna.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag fame, Karna was planned as a two-part epic with a staggering budget of ₹350 crore.

Suriya was set to portray the legendary Mahabharata character Karna, while Janhvi Kapoor, fresh off her Telugu debut in Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1, was to play Draupadi in her Tamil debut.

However, reports suggest that the project has been put on hold, although no official announcement has been made by the makers yet. Readmore!

According to a report by Pinkvilla, budget concerns are a major factor behind the decision to shelve Karna.

Kanguva, which was announced in 2019, faced delays due to the pandemic before its release on November 14, 2024.

Despite the hype, the film’s performance seems to have impacted the viability of Karna, leaving the ambitious project in limbo.
