There has been ongoing speculation that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu might offer one of the three vacant Rajya Sabha seats to the Jana Sena Party (JSP), led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Reports also suggested that Pawan Kalyan was planning to nominate his elder brother and senior party leader, Konidela Naga Babu, for the Rajya Sabha seat. However, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the party regarding these rumors.
Recent developments indicate a potential shift after Pawan Kalyan’s visit to New Delhi, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union ministers.
According to sources, the Prime Minister reportedly requested Pawan Kalyan to relinquish the Rajya Sabha seat in favor of a BJP candidate, citing the party’s shortfall in numbers in the Upper House.
It is said that Pawan Kalyan agreed to the request, unable to decline a personal appeal from Modi.
Seemingly corroborating these speculations, Naga Babu tweeted that Pawan Kalyan’s visit to New Delhi was solely for the development of Andhra Pradesh, not for personal gains.
“My ultimate objective is to work for Pawan,” he wrote, clarifying that his priorities lie in supporting his brother and the party.
The Jana Sena Party's secretary general further emphasized his dedication, stating that he is always ready to sacrifice his life for the party and its leader and that he harbors no personal political ambitions.
On Saturday, BJP state president and Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeshwari commented on the matter, stating that the decision regarding contesting Rajya Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh would be made by the party’s national leadership.
“It is not in my purview,” she clarified.
