Google has unveiled its list of the most popular searches in India across various categories, including entertainment, sports, politics, travel, and more.
In the movies category, the most searched film was Stree 2.
Featuring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles, this horror-comedy released in cinemas on August 15, coinciding with India’s Independence Day, and became a massive blockbuster.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 outperformed Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, and Aamir Khan’s Dangal to become the first Hindi film to cross â¹600 crore net in India.
The film’s worldwide gross collections stood at an impressive â¹850 crore. Stree 2 is the fourth installment in the Maddock supernatural universe, following Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya.
In addition to Shraddha and Rajkummar, Varun Dhawan made a surprise cameo as Bhediya in Stree 2. Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia also appeared in cameo roles, with Akshay introduced as a Thanos-like villain in the Maddock supernatural universe.
In Google’s list of most searched movies in India for 2024, Kalki 2898 AD and 12th Fail secured the second and third spots, respectively. Laapataa Ladies and HanuMan ranked fourth and fifth.
The remaining five films in the top ten were Maharaja, Manjummel Boys, The Greatest of All Time, Salaar, and Aavesham.
