It has been more than 10 years since the combined state of Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to form separate Telangana and residuary AP.
Former Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar, who put up a stiff resistance to the bifurcation, has still been waging a legal battle on the issue.
Soon after the bifurcation of the state, Vundavalli filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the unscientific manner in which the AP Reorganisation Act was passed by the Parliament.
This petition has been pending in the Supreme Court for a decade.
Despite urging both Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan's governments to file affidavits supporting Andhra Pradesh’s stance, no action was taken.
It was only in the fag end of his term, Jagan submitted an affidavit supporting Vndavalli's petition against the bifurcation.
Now, the former MP wants the present TDP-led coalition government to follow up the case.
In a letter written to Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday, Vundavalli reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, while in Parliament, criticized the actions of the previous UPA government in getting the AP Reorganisation Bill was passed.
“Modi even pointed out that the bill was passed without any division of votes and by closing the doors of Parliament amidst using of pepper spray. Now that Modi continues to rule the country and the TDP-led NDA is in power in AP, it should pursue the case,” the ex-MP said.
In his letter, Undavalli highlighted various aspects of the bifurcation, including the way it was handled by the then-central government in Parliament, and the responses of Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan to his petition.
He said there should be no political obstacles for the BJP. He requested Pawan to facilitate discussions in Parliament on this issue and ensure government affidavits are filed in the Supreme Court to support his petition.
