Chiranjeevi To Be Nominated To RS?

If the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has its way, megastar Chiranjeevi is likely to get nominated to Rajya Sabha under “Cinema” or “Social Service” category by the President of India.

According to sources in New Delhi, the Centre is considering the name of Chiranjeevi for the Rajya Sabha nomination under President of India quota. There are four vacancies in RS under this quota at present.

As per the Constitution, President of India nominates as many as 12 members to Rajya Sabha for their contributions towards arts, literature, sciences, and social services. The vacancies will be filled up as and when they arise.

At present, popular writer and producer V Vijayendra Prasad has been the Rajya Sabha member under “Cinema” category. But his term will end only in July 2028. Even under the social service category, there are no vacancies till 2028. Readmore!

According to one argument, if the Centre wants to nominate Chiranjeevi under Cinema or Social Service category, he may have to wait for another four years. But another source said nothing can stop the Centre from nominating more than one person under the same category.

“For example, there are two persons – Ghulam Ali Khatana and Veerendra Heggade – who have been nominated to Rajya Sabha under social work category. So, Chiranjeevi can also get the nomination under Cinema or Social Work category,” sources said.

Since Chiranjeevi doesn’t want to get associated with any political party, unlike in the past when he was a RS member from the Congress, the Centre might nominate him to the RS under President’s quota.

“He might not object to such a nomination,” sources added.
