The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) claimed on Tuesday that Hindu Dharma has flourished in Andhra Pradesh only under the leadership of party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Addressing reporters, former minister Kottu Satyanarayana criticized BJP state president Daggubati Purandeswari for her remarks during the "Hindu Shankharavam" meeting near Vijayawada.
He accused Purandeswari of making politically motivated statements to benefit her brother-in-law, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
“It is unfortunate that Purandeswari used a platform meant to uphold Hindu Dharma to make baseless political allegations. Her primary agenda is to safeguard Chandrababu Naidu’s interests, not Hindu values,” Satyanarayana said.
He highlighted several initiatives undertaken by Jagan’s government to promote Hindu Dharma, including temple restoration projects, increased salaries for priests, abolition of retirement rules for temple priests, and the resolution of long-pending temple land disputes.
“Unlike Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure, which witnessed temple demolitions and idol desecration, Jagan’s administration has prioritized temple development by investing â¹600 crore and protecting temple lands,” he added.
Satyanarayana accused Purandeswari of turning a blind eye to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government’s failures, such as the demolition of over 40 temples during the Krishna Pushkarams and the mismanagement of the Rajahmundry Pushkarams, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 29 people.
“She remained silent during those incidents but now levels baseless allegations for political gain,” he remarked.
Satyanarayana further noted that the YS Jagan government had taken revolutionary measures, such as exempting temples earning below â¹5 lakh annually from government control, constructing 3,000 new temples with Srivani Trust funds, and launching major development projects for the Kanakadurga and Srisailam temples.
“Purandeswari’s comments are nothing but a diversionary tactic by the BJP-TDP coalition. The YSRCP government’s revolutionary measures to protect Hindu traditions and temple lands speak louder than her politically charged rhetoric,” he concluded.
