How can Vijayashanti be helpful Congress?

The Congress high command's decision to nominate actress-turned-politician Vijayashanti for a seat in the Telangana state legislative council has come as a major surprise to party leaders and has sparked debate in media circles.

Even senior Congress leaders were taken aback by the selection of Vijayashanti, with many questioning the logic behind rewarding a leader who has been politically inactive for years.

In fact, several Congress leaders and media personnel expressed doubts about whether Vijayashanti was even associated with the Congress, let alone deserving of an MLC nomination, as she is still widely remembered as a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member.

From time to time, Vijayashanti posts statements on X (formerly Twitter) with the tagline "Har Har Mahadev," creating the impression that she might still be aligned with the BJP. Few recall when she officially rejoined the Congress, and her contributions to the party remain unclear. Readmore!

According to Gandhi Bhavan sources, even Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, and senior Congress leaders are still trying to understand the reasoning behind her nomination, as Vijayashanti rarely visits Gandhi Bhavan or participates in party activities.

Political analysts are also struggling to decode the party’s strategy in choosing a leader who has been largely absent from political discourse in recent years.

Sources suggest that the newly appointed AICC in-charge of Telangana, Meenakshi Natarajan, recommended Vijayashanti’s name to the high command.

Many party loyalists and observers are now questioning whether this is the kind of change the leadership had promised. While it is true that Vijayashanti was once an aggressive political leader, she has been inactive in public life for a long time.

Unlike other Congress leaders who have worked tirelessly for the party, she has not been in the political spotlight. If the party had chosen an active leader, the move would have been understandable, but this decision has left even loyal Congress supporters perplexed.
