YSR district to be renamed again as YSR Kadapa

The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet which met at the state secretariat on Monday under the leadership of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken a key decision to rename YSR District as YSR Kadapa district again.

The cabinet discussed the issue of renaming the district, as Kadapa is a matter of sentiment to the locals. It is a changed form of “Gadapa” (threshold) as it is believed to be the entry point to Tirumala hills, the abode of Lord Venkateshwara.

With this decision, the district will officially be recognized as YSR Kadapa District instead of just YSR District.

In fact, previously, the district was known only as Kadapa but after the death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, the then Rosaiah government proposed to change the name of the district as YSR Kadapa district in memory of the departed leader. Readmore!

But the former YSR Congress government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had removed "Kadapa" from the name, retaining only "YSR District." Since then, the district has been referred to by the shorter name.

This move by the current government aims to restore the original district name, reinstating "Kadapa" alongside "YSR."
