It appears that the YSR Congress Party is not going to let the issue of lapses in the security cover for party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy go unnoticed.
The recent incident where YSRCP workers broke through the security cordon and surged towards the helipad at Papireddypalli in Ramagiri mandal of Sri Satya Sai district has given the party an opportunity to escalate the matter to a national level.
While the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has dismissed it as a political drama orchestrated by Jagan, the YSRCP is making every effort to prove that there is a genuine threat to his life under the Chandrababu Naidu-led regime.
Apparently, Jagan intends to take the matter to New Delhi and convey a message across the country that Naidu’s government is deliberately compromising on his security, thereby posing a risk to his life.
On Thursday, senior YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Botsa Satyanarayana stated that the party would approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister to address the issue of inadequate security being provided to Jagan.
Botsa criticized the coalition government for deliberately undermining Jagan’s Z+ category security since coming to power, citing the recent incident at Ramagiri where Jagan visited the family of a slain YSRCP worker without basic police protection.
He accused the government of conspiring against Jagan and questioned how a former CM with Z+ security could be treated with such negligence.
“Despite claims of deploying 1,100 police personnel, visuals showed minimal presence, reflecting the government’s negligence and intent,” Botsa said.
He warned that such governance could provoke public unrest, referencing similar security lapses in Mahanandi and Guntur.
He demanded changes in police conduct, an end to bias toward the ruling party, and called for action against officers who fail to uphold the law.
The YSRCP reiterated its commitment to ensuring Jagan’s safety and urged the central government to intervene.
