Telugu Student Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run in Texas

A Telugu student, Deepthi Vangavolu, is in critical condition after being struck in a hit-and-run accident in Denton, Texas, according to reports received on Monday.

Deepthi and another woman were walking home when they were hit by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene without stopping.

The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

As per her LinkedIn profile, Deepthi is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer and Information Science at the University of North Texas.

She completed her B.Tech at Narasaraopeta Engineering College in March 2023 and is believed to be a native of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

The Denton Police Department reported that the accident occurred at 2:12 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, in the 2300 block of Carril Al Lago Drive, a residential area near N. Bonnie Brae Street and W. University Drive.

Eyewitnesses stated that a dark-colored sedan struck the two women and fled the scene, heading north on N. Bonnie Brae Street.

Authorities have identified the suspect vehicle as a dark Kia Optima, believed to have a missing or damaged front grille and possible headlight damage.

Denton police are actively seeking information to identify the driver responsible for the incident.
