The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for making a factual error about Mahatma Gandhi during a podcast with Sandeep Dikshit.
Rahul mentioned that Mahatma Gandhi was thrown out of a train in England, which drew sharp reactions from BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya.
Siroya expressed disappointment and shared the clip online, pointing out that this mistake showed a lack of historical knowledge.
Siroya clarified that the well-known incident of Gandhi being removed from a train actually occurred in South Africa in 1893, not England.
He said even someone not highly educated knows this key detail and questioned how Congress members and the Nehru Centre failed to notice the error before releasing the podcast. He also recorded the segment to prevent any future edits.
In the podcast, Rahul Gandhi was speaking about the influence of Motilal Nehru on Jawaharlal Nehru. While telling a story about British rule, he made the incorrect reference to England, which led to this controversy.
