Viveka murder: AP govt backs Sunitha demand

Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of former Andhra Pradesh minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy continues at a slow pace, the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government has supported the demand of Viveka’s daughter Sunitha for the cancellation of bail of Kadapa MP and YSRCP leader Y S Avinash Reddy.

A few days ago, Sunitha filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the bail granted earlier to Avinash Reddy. A Supreme Court benc led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, is currently hearing the petition.

However, with Justice Khanna set to retire in May, he announced that the case would be transferred to another bench. It is likely that the incoming chief justice, B R Gavai, will take up the matter.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has submitted its affidavit to the Supreme Court supporting Sunitha’s request for cancellation of bail granted to Avinash Reddy.  Readmore!

The affidavit includes a report on the investigation into a counter-case filed against Sunitha and her husband, reportedly involving CBI officer Ram Singh.

The state government claims that the case against the couple was intentionally fabricated, and further alleges that Avinash Reddy used two police officers to orchestrate the entire episode.

On the other hand, Sunitha’s legal counsel argued that Avinash Reddy, if allowed to remain out on bail, could tamper with evidence and influence witnesses — pointing to the counter-case as an example.

In response, Avinash Reddy's lawyers requested additional time to file a counter to Sunitha's petition. Considering the circumstances, the Supreme Court bench has adjourned the case, scheduling the next hearing for the last week of July.
