Unverified media reports that surfaced late Thursday night have sparked speculation about a possible power struggle within the top ranks of the Pakistan Army, reportedly involving Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.
The reports allege that General Mirza, who took charge as the 18th CJCSC on November 27, 2022, may be heading a faction within the military that is increasingly discontent with General Munir’s leadership.
Critics claim Munir’s so-called “personal agenda” has contributed to growing domestic unrest and worsening international relations.
Although there has been no official response from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), analysts suggest that the alleged tensions could signal a looming internal rift — possibly even a coup attempt — at the highest levels of Pakistan’s military hierarchy.
