Devika and Danny, the latest Telugu web series, is now streaming on Jio Hotstar. In key roles, the series features Ritu Varma, Surya Vashistta, Shiva Kandukuri, and Subbaraju. The series is directed by B. Kishore, who also directed Sreekaram.
Set in Ramapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Devika Nandan (Ritu Varma) is a music teacher at a local school. A devoted daughter, she agrees to marry Jagannatham alias Jaggi (Subbaraju).
However, her life takes a turn when she unexpectedly meets Danny (Surya Vashishta). A bond quickly forms between the two, leaving Devika torn between Jaggi and Danny. The twist? Danny is a spirit.
After discovering his true identity, Devika agrees to help Danny fulfill an unfinished task. As the story unfolds, we see the challenges she faces and how Subbu (played by Shiva Kandukuri) assists her.
Who is Subbu? What was Danny’s past? And why can only Devika see him? These are some of the key mysteries that drive the series forward.
Devika is portrayed as someone who lives in her comfort zone, devoted to family and music. But her journey into the unknown and her willingness to confront unexpected realities make her arc inspiring.
The story is told across seven episodes, most of which run for around 28 minutes, except for the third episode, which is just 18 minutes.
The series opens with Devika’s family background, giving viewers a quick understanding of her world. Danny’s flashback scenes add emotional depth, and Subbaraju’s entrance as Jaggi adds charm.
While the chemistry between Devika and Danny works, their dialogues often feel routine. Scenes involving Devika, Jaggi, and other teachers tend to drag.
The real story kicks off once Devika learns that Danny is a ghost. The emotional weight of Danny’s past is revealed in later episodes, with senior actress Kovai Sarala making a surprising and impactful appearance as Gayatri. Her connection to Danny and the injustice she suffered adds intrigue.
Devika’s efforts to complete Danny’s mission, with Subbu’s help, are engaging. Subbu adds humor, while the final three episodes bring tension — will they survive their encounter with the villains? Does Jaggi succeed in his challenge to bring Devika home?
While the screenplay is gripping in parts, the mix of comedy during serious moments slightly undercuts the suspense.
Comedians like Viva Harsha and Sonia Singh are underused, and actress Divi shines in a brief guest appearance, hinting at a possible Season 2.
Yoginandan, who plays Devika’s grandfather, has a powerful but underdeveloped role. Why Danny’s spirit seeks him out remains unclear — perhaps a mystery to be resolved in the next season.
Devika and Danny offers a blend of emotion, supernatural thrills, and self-discovery — leaving enough open threads for a potentially compelling follow-up.
