The Kapu Reservation Porata Samithi (KRPS), formed by a group of Kapu leaders to lead the community's agitation — taking inspiration from the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) headed by Manda Krishna Madiga — had planned to hold a massive rally in Vijayawada on June 29.
However, for unspecified reasons, the rally was postponed, disappointing many Kapu activists who have been demanding reservation for the community in education and employment.
According to sources, the postponement followed intervention by Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish, a member of the Kapu community.
Satish held discussions with key Kapu leaders, including Nagendra Babu, who has been spearheading the agitation modeled on the MRPS movement.
Sources said KRPS was planning to form a Steering Committee under the leadership of political analyst Pentapati Pulla Rao. The movement was initiated by Kapu leaders led by J. Nagendra Babu.
Sana Satish to engage with the leaders and defuse tensions. Satish subsequently met with nearly 200 Kapu leaders in Kakinada, in a meeting coordinated by Kapu leader Gandham Pallamraju.
Satish emphasized the need to resolve Kapu issues through dialogue with the government, highlighting the current coalition government's favorable stance on community concerns.
In response, Pallamraju and other leaders reached out to Nagendra Babu and convinced him to defer the planned rally.
Satish assured them he would facilitate a meeting with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Lokesh in July to present the Kapu community’s demands.
The KRPS has been demanding recognition of Balijas as Kapus in Rayalaseema, the release of Rs 5,000 crore for the Kapu Corporation as previously promised, and 10–12% reservation for Kapus, similar to the reservation granted to Marathas in Maharashtra.
The deferral of the rally — largely due to Satish’s intervention — is seen as a major relief for the ruling TDP-led coalition, as it helped avert a politically sensitive agitation.
