Sacrifice, Success & Rs 50 Cr: Director's Journey

Star actors and directors in Indian cinema are known to earn eye-watering amounts, but rarely do they speak openly about their pay.

Most remain tight-lipped, often to avoid scrutiny, especially from the Income Tax Department.

But one filmmaker has broken that trend — director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

In a recent interview, he candidly revealed that he received ₹50 crore as remuneration for his upcoming film "Coolie" starring Rajinikanth. Readmore!

“You can ask me about my ₹50 crore fee. My last film Leo collected ₹600 crore at the box office. That’s why I am able to command this fee now. And I’m happy to say this openly — because I’ve paid my taxes,” Lokesh said confidently.

He emphasized that nothing in life comes easy.

“This remuneration reflects two years of sacrifice and hard work. When you give your all, success follows,” he said.

Lokesh credited his success to giving up time with friends, family, and even skipping celebrations to focus on his craft.

“Every time I achieve success, I make sure I’m paid well. That’s the reward for my effort,” he added.

Coolie, directed by Lokesh and starring Rajinikanth, is scheduled to release on August 14.
