Revanth's claim for 10-year CM kicks up row

A public announcement made by Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy during a rally at Jataprolu village of Nagarkurnool district on Friday that he will continue to be the chief minister till 2034, has kicked up row within the party.

During the massive public meeting, Revanth Reddy made a bold statement saying he would remain the chief minister for a period of 10 years.

Responding to this comment, senior Congress MLA from Munugode, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his dissent.

Rajgopal Reddy has been visibly upset with Congress leadership for the past few days, reportedly due to being overlooked for a ministerial post.  Readmore!

In that context, he criticised Revanth Reddy's statement, claiming it goes against the core principles of the Congress party.

He asserted that in a national party like Congress, the Chief Minister is elected democratically based on the directives of the party high command.

He further added that genuine Congress leaders and cadre will not tolerate attempts to turn the Telangana Congress into a personal empire.

Interestingly, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, too, lashed out at the claim of Revanth Reddy.

BRS MLC and spokesperson Dasoju Sravan wondered how Revanth Reddy had ignored the party legislative rules and democratic traditions.

“He is talking as if the Congress high command is in his own pocket. His comments are an insult to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, questioning their decision-making powers. He has also insulted the people of Telangana by behaving as if they had given him franchise rights as CM for 10 years,” Sravan alleged.
