Stop inhuman treatment of cops in Andhra

YSR Congress Party on Saturday appealed to the Centre to direct the Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh to stop inhuman and unconstitutional treatment of police officials in the state in the last one years.

YSRCP’s Lok Sabha member from Tirupati Maddila Gurumoorthy wrote a detailed letter to President of India Droupadi Murmu and forwarded the copies to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer.

The letters were also marked to Andhra Pradesh chief secretary G Vijayanand, and Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta.

He said as many as 199 senior police officers in Andhra Pradesh are being subject to mental harassment by not being given any postings or salaries since June 2024. Readmore!

These 199 officers include 4 IPS officers, 4 Non-Cadre Superintendents of Police, 1 APSP Commandant, 27 Additional SPs, 42 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) (Civil and APSP), and 119 Circle Inspectors.

“All of them have been kept in the Vacancy Reserve (VR) list and arbitrarily attached to the DGP Office in Mangalagiri without any official postings, responsibilities, or remuneration,” he said.

Gurumoorthy pointed out that these officers are forced to mark attendance twice daily, live in rented accommodations at their own cost, and have not been paid for over a year.

“There are no pending departmental or legal proceedings against them. Despite this, they are also deployed unofficially for political bandobast, VIP duties, and public events without any vehicles, allowances, or recognition, causing humiliation and extreme financial hardship,” he alleged.

The MP said this violates Articles 14, 16, and 21 of the Constitution of India, and Supreme Court guidelines.

He urged all constitutional authorities to intervene immediately to restore postings, release pending salaries and benefits, resume pension contributions, and uphold justice and service dignity for the affected officers.
