'War 2', headlined by Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan, seems to have performed below trade expectations
According to early estimates, the film earned â¹52.50 crore net in India on its first day (August 14, 2025).
The multilingual release saw varied occupancy rates in different markets. In the Hindi belt, War 2 recorded an overall 23.02% occupancy, reflecting a slower-than-expected start in its primary market.
In Tamil Nadu, the film registered an overall 37.25% occupancy, showing moderate interest from audiences.
However, it was the Telugu states that drove the film’s biggest numbers on opening day. Benefiting from Jr NTR’s immense popularity post-RRR, War 2 achieved an impressive 71.67% occupancy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, contributing significantly to its Day 1 earnings.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films, War 2 is the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe and the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War.
The film features Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Kabir, with Jr NTR making his franchise debut, alongside Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor.
With a strong start in South India and potential for growth in the Hindi market over the weekend, War 2 will be closely watched to see if it can sustain momentum against its box office rival, Rajinikanth’s Coolie.
