After the underwhelming performance of Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj seems to be going through a testing phase in his career.
Once considered the “golden boy” of Tamil cinema, the filmmaker is now facing creative setbacks.
Lokesh had initially lined up Kaithi 2 as his next project, but that film has been put on hold for now. Instead, he is reportedly trying to stage a massive comeback with an ambitious project that would bring two legends; Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan; together on screen.
However, one big disappointment for fans is the shelving of his much-talked-about collaboration with Aamir Khan.
The film, which was expected to roll after Kaithi 2, has now been dropped. Insiders say Aamir’s cameo in Coolie also failed to leave any impact, making both sides less keen to move forward.
At this stage, trade circles feel that Lokesh should take a step back from star-studded spectacles and focus again on what made him famous in the first place; gripping, fresh, and intense storytelling. Only then can he regain the edge he once had in the industry.
