SVSN Varma, senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former MLA from Pithapuram in Kakinada district, has once again become the subject of political discussion.
In the past, Varma had strongly opposed illegal sand mining in his constituency, criticizing the activities that, he said, were tarnishing the image of the TDP-led coalition government.
His followers have long complained that, despite giving up his constituency for Jana Sena Party president and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan and working tirelessly for Kalyan’s victory, Varma has not received due recognition from the government.
Interestingly, the state government recently allotted two gunmen to Varma for personal security. This led to the talk that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has decided to assign him a key position, and the sanctioning of gunmen is seen as part of that process.
Against this backdrop, Varma on Wednesday met veteran Kapu leader and YSR Congress party senior leader udragada Padmanabha Reddy at the latter’s residence.
The meeting, described as a courtesy call following the Kapu leader’s recovery from a serious illness, sparked further debate after a video of their interaction went viral on social media.
In recent weeks, several senior YSRCP leaders, including Botsa Satyanarayana, Challa Jaggireddy, Akula Veerraju, and Vanga Geetha, visited Padmanabha Reddy to wish him well.
Leaders across party lines — such as TDP’s Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Nimmakayala Chinarajappa — also expressed solidarity with the Padmanabha Reddy family. Now, Varma too paid his respects, fueling speculation about his future political course.
“There is no political significance to the meeting, except a courtesy call. In any case, Mudragada is of no political significance in contemporary politics,” sources said.
