A quick survey conducted by a social survey agency VOTA has revealed that the recent sacking of Telangana Jagruthi founder Kalvakuntla Kavitha from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi and her subsequent resignation from the party and her MLC seat might cause considerable damage to the party in the long-run.
The survey was conducted in randomly selected respondents (sample balanced by caste, gender, occupation and age) to gauge the political impact of Kavitha’s resignation and the controversy surrounding her.
According to the survey, a broad section of people said Kavitha’s resignation was widely expected; roughly half the respondents thought it would cause some damage to BRS.
Many believe Kavitha may form a new party in future and could attract support depending on her agenda.
A majority view was that Kavitha is not strong enough as an individual leader without BRS’s infrastructure.
However, many respondents accept some of her allegations against figures such as Harish and Santosh and think family disputes and disputes over assets and inheritance are central to the controversy.
Several respondents said Kavitha’s issue could benefit Congress electorally and harm BRS in local body elections if allegations are proved. There is also palpable talk on social media and counter-attacks from her camp.
Some political observers claim the BJP has been courting disaffected BRS leaders and may use Kavitha’s situation to expand its footprint in Telangana; others argue the Congress and BJP both stand to gain from BRS infighting.
During the survey, some contend that KCR has been tolerant of family disputes; others assert that BRS leadership management, including responses to Kavitha’s charges, will decide electoral fallout. Opinions diverge on whether Harish Rao will be sidelined or could emerge stronger.
On the long term, many voters said Kavitha’s emphasis on BC (backward classes) issues could resonate with some communities, but several felt the liquor-scam allegations and questions over assets will limit her political upside.
The survey summarized that while the immediate impact is mixed and uncertain, Kavitha’s actions have certainly injected volatility into Telangana politics and could reshape local dynamics depending on legal outcomes and party strategies.
