Tamil super star Vijay who made a foray into politics with his Party Tamilaga Vettri Kazagham (TVK) started his poll campaign from Tiruchirappalli on Saturday.
Political initiatives started in Tiruchirappalli have always yielded great benefits in the history of Tamil Nadu.
In 1956, DMK founder Annadurai held a meeting where he announced his decision to contest the elections.
Similarly, AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran held his first political meeting in this town in 1974, two years after founding his Party. This was also where the anti-Brahmin Periyar used to live.
Vijay has been accused by some sections of starting a political party only to cut into the DMK vote bank and indirectly benefit the BJP.
Being a Christian, there is no way, Vijay can directly affiliate with the BJP. However, Vijay has denied all allegations and claimed his Party was for the people of Tamil Nadu.
Now that he has taken the plunge, will Tiruchirappalli prove to be equally lucky for Vijay?
