Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a statement questioning the sense of fair play in the Hindu religion.
Speaking about religion conversions, he said, “If there is equality in the Hindu community, why would people convert to other religions?”
Naturally, his comments have not gone down well with many sections of society. The general criticism against the BJP by the Congress is that it is a Hindutva Party and anti-minority.
The Congress on the other hand calls itself ‘secular’ which means treating all religions equally and not preferring any particular religion over ‘another’.
In his capacity as a ‘secular’ Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah should desist from passing judgement on any religion.
He should be neutral and any controversies can be handled by the judiciary that will interpret them according to the Constitution.
But when the Chief Minister of a State starts passing opinion on why a certain religion is good or bad, he can longer claim to be ‘secular ‘and neither can his ‘Party’.
When Hindus get converted to other religions, it is because of problems within the religion but when Mohan Bhagwat and the RSS welcome minorities back to the fold of Hinduism, the same Congress calls it politics of ‘dangerous communalism’.
