Capital talk: Sajjala trying for damage control

After receiving a serious dressing down from YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for losing the tongue on Amaravati capital issue, senior YSRCP leader and state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy is said to be seriously trying for a damage control.

According to sources, Sajjala has approached a couple of television channels to request them to take his interview, so that he could give his clarification on the statement he had made at a news conclave on Friday on the capital city issue.

Sources said Sajjala wants to clarify that the pro-TDP media sought to distort his statement that Jagan would rule from Amaravati once he is voted to power again in 2029 elections.

“He wants to send a message to the people that Jagan has not taken any U-turn on the capital issue; and that he was only explaining the sequence of circumstances that led to Jagan’s decision on three capitals. Amaravati was one of the capital cities proposed by Jagan and there is no change in the stand – this is what Sajjala wants to clarify,” sources said. Readmore!

The YSRCP leaders and cadre are in a state of confusion over the party’s stand on Amaravati. Since Sajjala made the statement at the Mangalagiri media conclave, it sent a message across the party that Jagan has taken a U-turn.

The YSRCP president reportedly pulled up Sajjala for making a statement against three capitals proposal and declaring Amaravati as the capital.

“It has to be a policy decision and should be announced by the party president. How can you make such a statement?” Jagan reportedly asked Sajjala.

A party leader said it would be better Sajjala remains quiet on the issue.

“If he tries to issue a clarification in the media, it will add to further confusion,” he added.
