A 27-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad, Chandrashekar Pole, was tragically shot dead in Dallas, Texas, while working at a gas station on Saturday night.
The assailant, reportedly an unidentified gunman, fled the scene after the shooting, and local authorities have launched an investigation.
Chandrashekar had moved to the United States in 2023 after completing his Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery in Hyderabad.
He finished his Master’s degree six months ago and was actively seeking full-time employment. In the meantime, he worked part-time at the gas station to support himself financially.
The shocking incident has devastated his family in Hyderabad. They have appealed to the Indian and Telangana governments to help repatriate his mortal remains from the US at the earliest.
BRS MLA Sudhir Reddy and former minister T. Harish Rao visited Chandrashekar’s family home to offer condolences. Calling the incident “deeply tragic,” Harish Rao urged the government to step in immediately.
“The pain of the parents, who once dreamed of seeing their son achieve great heights, is beyond words,” Rao said in an online post. “On behalf of BRS, we request the government to take swift action and ensure Chandrashekar’s mortal remains are brought home without delay.”
The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian students working part-time in the US, with many on social media expressing shock and demanding stronger measures to protect them abroad.
