YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to be going in a strategic way to fight the next assembly elections in the state and return to power.
According to highly placed sources, Jagan has begun recalibrating his political approach, correcting past mistakes and preparing for a renewed campaign to regain lost ground.
In the past two elections, in which the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) had worked with the YSR Congress Party — first under Prashant Kishor in 2019 and later under Rishiraj Singh in 2024.
While Jagan stormed to power in 2019, the party suffered defeat in 2024, prompting a major review of his political machinery.
Since the 2024 loss, Jagan has largely been operating from Bengaluru, reportedly reviewing his party’s setbacks and revising his strategies.
Party sources indicate that he has now entered into an agreement with a senior political strategist who once worked closely with Prashant Kishor at I-PAC.
The consultant is expected to provide strategic support to the YSR Congress Party until the 2029 Assembly elections.
“At present, the consultant is preparing the ground for Jagan’s public outreach campaigns in the first half of 2026, besides working out plans for strengthening of the organisational network,” a source said.
Earlier, there was an attempt by Rishiraj Singh, who led the 2024 campaign, to come back as a consultant. However, Jagan was not in favour of retaining him, leading to the decision to rope in the new consultant.
The formal announcement of this partnership is expected soon, possibly during the next internal meeting with party seniors.
Jagan is reportedly determined to fix the political missteps made during the 2019–24 period.
He is said to have assured his cadres that, if voted back to power, party workers will be given top priority in all aspects of governance.
Meanwhile, he has begun mobilizing protests against certain decisions of the current coalition government, particularly its move to establish new medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Sources close to Jagan say his current focus is on strengthening grassroots organization and staying directly connected with the public.
As he prepares to roll out new strategies under the guidance of his yet-to-be-named political consultant, anticipation is growing within the party about the direction of his next political move.
