A police official, who was previously suspended in a case linked to electoral irregularities in Parchuru constituency in Prakasam district and allegedly vowed to get the YSR Congress party elected in the last assembly elections, is now back in a key posting.
According to sources, Sheik Feroz who was circle inspector in Parchuru, was facing allegations of threatening booth-level officers and forcing them to delete TDP supporters’ votes via Form-7 in Paruchuru segment before the last elections and openly backing the then YSRCP candidate.
The then Paruchuru MLA Eluri Sambasiva Rao had approached the Election Commission and later the court over alleged vote deletions; four officers, including Firoz, were suspended.
According to TDP functionaries, a senior party leader lobbied to bring Firoz to Narasaraopet and got him posted as CI of Narasaraopet One Town Police Station, prompting protests from sections of the TDP.
A TDP leaders wondered how someone accused of publicly pledging to defeat their candidate could be rewarded with “a key posting.”
Several leaders claim a TDP functionary played a “crucial role” in facilitating the transfer, intensifying the backlash.
Officials have not issued a formal clarification on the rationale for the appointment.
