According to The Washington Post, many AI startups are now making 72-hour work weeks mandatory for their employees. This means people are expected to work long hours; from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week; a schedule known as “996 culture.”
This work culture started in China’s tech industry and is now becoming popular in Silicon Valley, the home of major tech companies like Google and Facebook.
Founders of AI startups say they need this intense work schedule because the AI race is moving fast, and whoever wins will make billions of dollars.
For employees, it means working in AI is exciting and full of opportunities; but it’s also tough, demanding, and not for everyone.
