Court Dismisses CBI Plea Against Jagan

In a relief to YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, a CBI special court in Hyderabad on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging that Jagan had violated bail conditions in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

As per the bail terms, Jagan must furnish his active mobile number to the CBI before leaving the country.

The agency alleged that during his recent 10-day private visit to London to meet his daughter, the number he provided was inactive when officials tried to contact him on three occasions.

The CBI argued that Jagan had deliberately given a non-functional number, thereby breaching his bail conditions. The agency sought the court’s intervention, contending that the accused had acted in bad faith. Readmore!

Jagan’s counsel, however, told the court that the London trip was completed and that Jagan had returned to India, stressing there was no wilful violation.

After hearing both sides, the CBI court rejected the petition, ruling that there was no substantial ground to conclude a breach of bail conditions.

The verdict brings temporary relief to the former chief minister, who remains an accused in the long-pending illegal assets case registered by the CBI over a decade ago.
