Former minister and YSRCP leader Vidadala Rajini from Chilakaluripet, Palnadu district, may face another change in her constituency, according to party insiders.
Reports suggest that former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to field her from a constituency with a stronger BC (Backward Class) voter base.
Rajini, who joined YSRCP before the 2019 elections, surprised many when she secured the Chilakaluripet ticket.
She defeated former minister Pattipati Pullarao and quickly rose to prominence.
Ignoring several senior leaders in Palnadu, Jagan made her a cabinet minister in his second expansion, assigning her the Health portfolio, which she handled efficiently for over two and a half years.
However, before the 2024 elections, based on internal surveys, Jagan shifted Rajini from Chilakaluripet to Guntur West.
Despite joining the new constituency just days before the election and campaigning tirelessly, she lost in the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance wave.
Since then, Rajini has been actively participating in YSRCP’s district-level programs, joining protests and meetings, and fiercely criticizing the government.
But Jagan reportedly wants to field a strong BC candidate against Minister Anagani Satya Prasad in Repalle, where BCs form a majority. Reliable sources say party leaders are pressuring Rajini to contest from there.
Although Rajini is said to be reluctant to move again, Jagan is determined to convince her.
In the past, leaders like Mopidevi Venkataramana kept the party active in Repalle, but after his defection to TDP, YSRCP’s local unit weakened.
Even though Eepuri Ganesh is currently in charge, Jagan is reportedly unhappy with his low visibility in protests.
Hence, Jagan has decided to send Rajini to Repalle to strengthen the party’s presence there.
Party sources say this may be the first of several major reshuffles planned in the coming months.
