In today's films, if an old song is played briefly, audiences go crazy. Remixes of classic tracks are being widely appreciated, and in some cases, old songs are turning out to be a major plus for movies.
While new songs may trend for a while, only the classics from the 1960s to 2000s remain evergreen. However, using those old songs isn’t easy; it’s an expensive process.
Most songs from the 1970s to 2000s are owned by specific companies, and filmmakers must get permission and pay fees.
In Tollywood, most songs belong to Aditya Music Company. So, whether it’s Velluvochi Godaramma from Devatha or Idemitamma Maya from Aayudham, filmmakers must approach them for rights.
For the movie K Ramp, the song ‘Idemitamma Maya Maikam Kamminda’ became a major highlight. There’s an interesting story behind how it was selected.
Initially, the team considered several popular songs, but most were too expensive. With a budget limit of only Rs 2 lakh, they began searching for songs within that range.
Interestingly, they chose this particular track because it fit their budget. However, Aditya Music, which shares a good rapport with the filmmakers, generously allowed them to use the song for free, turning it into a huge hit and a social media sensation.
Same could also be the case with 'Nandamuri Nayaka...' song, the rights of which are with the same Aditya.
