The release date of Akhanda 2 is not yet confirmed, and trade circles are discussing three different possibilities.
One view is that the release date may not be in the producer’s hands at all, as the OTT platform might announce it based on their own content schedule.
If the delay is just about a week, there won’t be any major issue. But if the delay extends beyond that, the OTT platform will need to announce a fresh release date, and based on that, the makers will have to fix the theatrical release accordingly.
Setting that possibility aside, trade circles believe that two release slots would be ideal.
The first is December 25, which comes with a long weekend and no major competing releases. This would give Akhanda 2 full strength at the box office.
The second possibility they suggest is a Sankranthi 2026 release.
If that happens, the magic of Waltair Veerayya and Veerasimha Reddy could repeat, with 'Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu' and 'Akhanda 2', a Chiranjeevi-Balayya box office competition, and the excitement from fans and caste groups playing a significant role.
Many in the trade circles actually prefer this option over the December 25 release.
Both state governments are reportedly favorable toward granting premiere permissions for Akhanda 2, and theatres will not be an issue despite heavy Sankranthi competition, they say.
