Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada has been facing relentless online abuse ever since her filmmaker-husband Rahul Ravindran spoke about her personal choice regarding wearing a mangalsutra during promotions for his film The Girlfriend.
The couple has been targeted with harsh and unacceptable comments for weeks.
Things escalated further when a morphed image of Chinmayi was circulated online by a social media user. On Wednesday night, the singer reported the incident to the Hyderabad Police.
“I received a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops. Whether legal action happens or not is secondary. I made this video for girls and their families; to protect themselves from these ‘Laja Muda’ trolls who have been paid for the last 8–10 weeks to harass our family,” she wrote.
She also revealed that even her children have received death threats, highlighting how vicious the online harassment has become.
