Telangana: One NRI Vote Turns the Tables

A single vote changed the fate of a woman who emerged victorious as Sarpanch in the Bagapur Gram Panchayat elections held in Lokeshwaram Mandal of Nirmal district on Sunday.

The result stands as a powerful reminder that every vote truly matters.

While many educated urban voters often stay away from polling booths, leading to low voter turnout, one NRI proved the importance of exercising the right to vote.

Mutyala Indrakaran Reddy, who lives in the United States, travelled to Nirmal four days before the election to cast his vote in support of his daughter-in-law, Mutyala Srideva. Readmore!

Out of a total of 426 voters in the Gram Panchayat, 378 votes were polled. Srideva secured 189 votes, while her opponent Harashaswathi received 188 votes. One vote was declared invalid.

Indrakaran Reddy’s single vote made the difference, helping Srideva win the election by the narrowest possible margin.
