Filmmaker Mira Nair has revealed that she once wanted her son, US politician Zohran Mamdani, to act in her series A Suitable Boy (2020).
Speaking to THR India, Mira said she felt Zohran had all the right qualities for the role that was eventually played by Ishaan Khatter.
However, Zohran chose not to pursue acting.
Recalling his response, Mira said, “He told me, ‘A lot of people would die to be offered these things, but I don’t.’” She described him as the “most reluctant actor.”
Mira also shared that while Zohran did not want to act, he has been involved in her filmmaking journey in other ways.
She revealed that he assisted her during workshops for Monsoon Wedding (2001), showing an interest behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera.
