The US Embassy in India has clarified that a visa’s validity does not decide how long an international visitor can stay in the United States.
In a public alert, the embassy stated that the permitted length of stay is determined by a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the port of entry.
The embassy explained that while a visa allows a person to travel to the US, the actual duration of stay is decided upon arrival.
Visitors who wish to check how long they are authorised to remain in the country can view their I-94 “Admit Until” date on the official website at https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov.
The embassy also noted that this clarification is not new and that a similar advisory was issued around three months ago through its social media channels.
