OTT verdict: Akhanda 2 Gets Disaster Start on Netflix

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s latest film Akhanda 2 has received a lukewarm response on OTT. The film started streaming on Netflix last week, but its debut failed to attract strong viewership.

During its first week, Akhanda 2 featured in the top 10 non-English films list in seven countries, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria.

In India, the film managed to secure the third position, behind De De Pyaar De 2 and Haq!.

However, the film could not match the debut numbers of Balakrishna’s previous Netflix release. Readmore!

His earlier film Daaku Maharaaj, which premiered on the platform in 2025, recorded 2.4 million views in its opening week, higher than Akhanda 2.

According to Netflix data for the period January 5 to January 11, 2026, Akhanda 2 registered 2 million views with 5.6 million viewing hours in its debut week.

It ranked fourth in the global top 10 non-English films list. The chart this week was topped by the South Korean sci-fi disaster drama The Great Flood.

Interestingly, Akhanda 2 posted the same debut-week numbers as Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend. With this performance, Balakrishna’s film now stands as the fifth-lowest debut for a South Indian movie on Netflix since 2025.
