Closing Collections: Turns Out to Be a Disaster

The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas along with Sanjay Dutt, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab in key roles, has ended its theatrical run as a major disappointment.

While the film continues to add marginal numbers in domestic markets, its run in the biggest overseas territory—North America (USA and Canada)—has officially concluded on a disastrous note. Shockingly, the film failed to even touch the $2.5 million mark in the region.

Given the massive success of Kalki 2898 AD in North America, expectations were sky-high for Prabhas’ fantasy-horror-comedy entertainer. However, worrying signs emerged right from the advance booking phase, with ticket sales falling far below trade expectations.

Despite this, the film managed to collect $1.4 million from premieres and posted an opening day total of $1.76 million, including premieres. Unfortunately, the momentum dropped sharply thereafter. Readmore!

After an initial start, The Raja Saab was hit hard by poor word of mouth, leading to a steep decline in collections.

The film eventually wrapped up its North American run with just $2.356 million, which translates to approximately ₹21.64 crore. Of this total, the USA contributed $2.168 million (₹19.92 crore), while Canada added only $188,000 (₹1.72 crore).

In terms of language-wise performance, the original Telugu version dominated the collections, earning $2.295 million (₹21.08 crore). The Hindi-dubbed version fared poorly with just $58,000 (₹53.29 lakh), while the Tamil-dubbed version saw an almost negligible contribution of $3,000 (₹2.75 lakh).

For context, the revised breakeven target for the North American territory was pegged at $7.5 million (₹68.93 crore). Against this benchmark, the film managed to recover only $2.356 million, cementing its status as a clear disaster in the territory.

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab hit theatres on January 9. The film was produced by T. G. Vishwa Prasad, Krithi Prasad, and Ishan Saksena under the banners of People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment.

Reports suggest the film was made on a massive budget of around ₹500 crore, making its underperformance all the more damaging.
