Municipal Poll Heat Rises, Revanth Still in US

Even as the last date of nominations for the municipal elections in Telangana closed on Friday and the battle is just 11 days away, the political climate in the state has heated up.

Yet, Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy is still held up in New York in the US to complete the process of his week-long course, leaving the Congress party leaders and cadre in a state of uncertainty.

“Though the Congress leaders at the grassroots level have geared up for the campaign and other senior leaders are already working out strategies, the presence of the chief minister will give them a morale booster,” a party leader said.

On Saturday, Revanth Reddy conducted a Zoom meeting from the United States to review preparations for the upcoming municipal elections in the state. Readmore!

The virtual strategy session was attended by TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, party in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, and several senior ministers.

During the meeting, Mahesh Kumar Goud presented survey-based assessments of the municipal election landscape.

Revanth Reddy reportedly directed the party to aim for victory in nearly 90% of the seats, setting an aggressive electoral target.

He also warned party leaders to prevent rebel candidates and ensure organisational discipline.

According to sources, Revanth Reddy is expected to return to Hyderabad on February 1 and hold further consultations with party leadership.

They say from February 3 onwards, he will launch extensive campaigning across multiple districts.
