A big pan-world movie that is currently under production has reportedly received an OTT offer of a whopping Rs 260 crore from JioHotstar.
However, the makers of the film claimed that they already have an offer of Rs 300 crore from Netflix, but they are not ready.
Hearing this, the JioHotstar representatives advised the makers to go ahead and sign the deal with Netflix before they change their mind, stating that nobody in the current market would pay such a huge amount. This response reportedly shocked the makers.
Assuming the craze around the project, the makers expected that the JioHotstar team would come back for negotiations and eventually acquire the film by investing more.
Ironically, the makers’ expectation for the OTT rights is said to be around Rs 500 crore, which seems impossible even in wild dreams considering the present market situation.
The JioHotstar team reportedly made it clear that they would not invest a single penny more than Rs 260 crore for this film, and that this amount itself is the highest figure after crossing their critical limit.
While cashing in on hype is understandable, the point is that the film has not yet built enough craze to justify such expectations.
