Cong set to capture majority municipalities in T'gana

Cong set As the counting of votes in the Telangana municipal elections is underway, the trends and results announced so far indicate that the ruling Congress party is leading and is all set to capture majority of municipalities and corporations.

Replicating its performance in recent gram panchayat elections, the Congress candidates are winning in a large number of urban local bodies. 

As per the latest figures out of the 116 municipalities in the state, results were declared for 42 municipalities and the Congress has so far won 36 municipalities, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has secured only six

The Congress has performed particularly strongly in the undivided Nalgonda district, capturing all five municipalities there. The party has also won Kodangal, the hometown municipality of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and Madhira, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. Readmore!

Meanwhile, the BRS has registered a victory in Sircilla, represented by former minister K T Rama Rao. The BJP is yet to open its account in the results declared so far.

In addition to municipalities, results for seven municipal corporations are also awaited, but the trends indicate that the Congress is set to win at least five corporations. Counting for these corporations is currently underway, and complete results are expected to be announced by evening.
