The Telangana government headed by chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police to probe the alleged drug consumption by high-profile individuals at a farmhouse at Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
According to official orders issued by Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday, the SIT will function under the leadership of Chevella Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Gautam.
On Saturday night, a team of EAGLE forces and special operations team had busted a drug racket at a party hosted by Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and former MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy at his farmhouse in Moinabad.
The police arrested 11 persons, including Rohit Reddy, his brother, Telugu Desam Party MP from Eluru Putta Mahesh Yadav and a Delhi-based businessman Namit Sharma, who tested positive for drugs.
While eight persons were released on bail, Rohit Reddy, his brother and Namit Sharma were arrested and sent to judicial remand.
The SIT constituted by the state government has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive probe into all aspects of the case.
The SIT will investigate multiple angles, including: the origin and supply chain of the drugs used at the party, the identities and backgrounds of individuals who attended the gathering and possible links to international networks, particularly Dubai connections.
The probe will also cover the alleged involvement of businessman Namit Sharma and his real estate dealings.
Officials stated that the SIT will examine whether a larger drug trafficking network is involved and submit a detailed report to the government.
Namit Sharma allegedly opened fire at the police, when they conducted the raid. The police would question how he had operated the firearm belonging to Rohit Reddy.
