Vijay’s political graph in Tamil Nadu seems to be dropping quickly, say analysts. Talks of alliance with BJP, issues around his personal life, and the gap between his earlier speeches and current stand are raising doubts.
Earlier, Vijay clearly said his party will not join hands with any party. He even attacked BJP strongly, calling DMK a rival and BJP an enemy. But after the recent controversy, he appears to be on the defensive.
Now, rumours are growing that Vijay may move closer to BJP with promises like seats and power.
Right now, Vijay’s main strength is youth and his fan base. His cinema fans are supporting him politically too. But the big question is – will movie fans turn into political voters? That is always uncertain.
His personal life issues, especially divorce rumours, have also affected his image. If handled earlier, the damage could have been less.
Now, comparisons are being made with Pawan Kalyan’s past. There is even talk that Vijay might take a big personal decision to control the narrative.
Initially, Vijay spoke against free schemes and said he would bring change. But now, ahead of elections, even he seems forced to promise freebies. This is disappointing some intellectual groups, who feel he is becoming like other politicians.
Also, if Vijay aligns with BJP, he may lose support from minority and Dalit voters. BJP still does not have strong acceptance in Tamil Nadu. Using Vijay as a face may not guarantee success.
Many believe Vijay should contest at least one election independently to prove his strength.
Starting with alliances, that too with a party he once called an enemy, may damage his credibility further.
