HC dismisses Alla petitions against Naidu

YSR Congress party leader and former Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy on Monday suffered a setback in the Andhra Pradesh high court, which dismissed a batch of petitions filed by him in connection with the Amaravati Inner Ring Road (IRR) case.

Ramakrishna Reddy had approached the high court with three separate pleas — seeking a CBI probe into the case, cancellation of the bail earlier granted to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and transfer of the trial from the ACB Court to the Special Court for MPs and MLAs.

The high court, however, held that all three petitions were not maintainable and dismissed them without even allowing any hearing in the case.

The ruling comes as a significant legal relief to Naidu in the long-running case, which has remained politically contentious since the previous YSR Congress Party government pursued allegations of irregularities in the planning of Amaravati’s Inner Ring Road. Readmore!

The Amaravati Inner Ring Road case was registered by the Andhra Pradesh CID in May 2022 based on a complaint filed by Ramakrishna Reddy.

Ramakrishna Reddy alleged that during the previous Telugu Desam Party government, the master plan and road alignment of Amaravati’s proposed Inner Ring Road were altered to benefit certain private individuals and firms by increasing the value of their lands.

The case later assumed major political significance after Naidu was named among the accused. In January 2024, the Supreme Court declined to interfere with the anticipatory bail granted to Naidu by the High Court, effectively allowing that protection to continue.
