Will YSRCP vote in favour of Amaravati bill in Parliament?

After the Andhra Pradesh state assembly adopting a resolution on statutory status to Amaravati, the Centre preparing to introduce Constitutional amendment bill in Parliament in the first week of April, after securing a due approval in the Union cabinet.

If passed, the legislation seeking to amend Section 5 of the AP Reorganisation Bill would formally establish Amaravati as the enduring capital of the state, bringing closure to years of political uncertainty.

The bill can be passed with a simple majority in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

According to sources, Sources suggest that the party leadership has internally deliberated on the need to clarify its position and reduce public opposition on the capital issue. 

Accordingly, party MPs are expected to articulate a nuanced stand during the parliamentary debate—supporting Amaravati as the capital while continuing to raise concerns about alleged irregularities in its development.

Party leaders have indicated that they are not opposed to Amaravati as the capital, describing the three-capital proposal as an issue limited to the pre-2024 election context.

With indications that the bill could be introduced during the ongoing Parliament session, attention is now focused on how the YSR Congress Party will respond during the legislative process.
