It is the season of biopics in Tollywood and Bollywood. The latest to enter this list is the proposed biographical film on Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Filmmaker Bhanu Shankar, who previously directed “Rajadhani Files,” a film that highlighted the struggles of Amaravati farmers, officially announced the project of a biopic on Naidu.
He said the upcoming biopic will chronicle the life journey of Chandrababu Naidu - from humble beginnings to becoming a visionary political leader.
According to the director, the film will portray key milestones in Naidu’s career.
The script covers Naidu’s rise in politics, major administrative decisions, challenges faced during his tenure, and his contributions to public welfare and development.
It is also expected to cover significant episodes such as his association with the Nandamuri family, the Alipiri attack, his tenure as chief minister, political struggles as an opposition leader, and developments during the YSRCP regime, including his arrest.
The storyline may also extend to his political resurgence in alliance with Pawan Kalyan.
The project is being planned as a pan-India film, and casting choices for key political figures, including the lead role of Chandrababu Naidu, are generating considerable interest in both political and film circles.
Further details regarding the title, production house, and shooting schedule are expected to be announced soon.
However, the issue that is being discussed in the media circles is whether the biopic will cover the most controversial chapters in Naidu’s life – backstabbing of father-in-law and former chief minister N T Rama Rao to usurp power in August 1995.
Sources said the August 1995 coup against NTR is the most turning point in Naidu’s life and also Andhra Pradesh politics.
It has left a permanent mark on Naidu’s political career as a back-stabber, though his supporters argue it was a necessary internal correction to stabilize governance and party structure
“Excluding the Hotel Viceroy episode will definitely leave a gap in the script, as it was because of this Naidu could become the chief minister. How it is going to be presented in the biopic is a different story,” an analyst said.
