New guards for BJP in Andhra, Telangana

After a gap of two years, the Bharatiya Janata Party in both the Telugu states – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, will have new presidents on Tuesday.

According to reports, the BJP has almost finalized former MLC P V N Madhav as its new state president for Andhra Pradesh.

The party, part of the ruling coalition in the state, reportedly took the decision after extensive internal discussions, aligning with its long-term strategy for "Mission 2029."

Several leaders were considered for the role, including Sujana Chowdary (Vijayawada West MLA), Dr. Partha Sarathi (Adoni MLA), and former CM Kiran Kumar Reddy. Readmore!

However, sources indicate the central leadership prefers Madhav for his loyalty and ability to coordinate with allies.

The BJP has been emphasizing the importance of the BC (Backward Classes) vote bank in both Telugu states.

The appointment of BC leaders like Satya Kumar as minister and R. Krishnaiah and Paka Satyanarayana to the Rajya Sabha highlights this focus.

With TDP and Jana Sena already commanding major social groups, the BJP is keen to strengthen its own base by assigning the leadership to a BC face from Uttarandhra.

Sources suggest that Madhav’s nomination will be uncontested, with Delhi leadership already signalling its approval.

In Telangana, too, the BJP national leadership is learnt to have cleared the candidature of senior leader and former MLC N Ramachander Rao.

Though the name of Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender was also in the reckoning, the party leadership is reportedly leaning toward Ramchander Rao, following suggestions from RSS leaders and BJP national heads.

There had been buzz around other names like Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and MP Dharmapuri Arvind, but they are said to be out of the final shortlist.

Party sources suggest that a consensus will lead to an uncontested nomination soon.
