Bill to Oust PM, CMs: 'A Tool to Blackmail Nitish, CBN'

In a fiery reaction to the Centre’s proposed bill that seeks the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers arrested on serious criminal charges, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has called it nothing more than a “political weapon.”

Speaking to the media, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the new law is being crafted not to uphold democracy but to target political opponents.

“This is a new way to blackmail people. This law is being brought only to blackmail and intimidate Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu. This is what these people do,” he said, referring to the BJP-led government.

Tejashwi reminded that this is not the first time opposition leaders have faced politically motivated cases. Readmore!

He pointed to the arrests of Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, both of whom, he stressed, were eventually acquitted.

“Earlier too, many Chief Ministers were kept in jail, but all were acquitted, like Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal,” he added.

The RJD leader framed the bill as an assault on democratic values, warning that it was a deliberate attempt to silence dissent and weaken democracy in India.

“This law is being brought to weaken democracy,” Tejashwi declared.

The Centre, however, has defended the bill as a step toward ensuring accountability and upholding the integrity of constitutional offices.

Yet, opposition voices like Tejashwi’s have raised concerns that the legislation could be selectively enforced to destabilize state governments and suppress leaders who refuse to align with the ruling party.

As the debate heats up, the bill is expected to face stiff resistance in Parliament, with opposition leaders rallying against what they describe as a “political blackmail tool disguised as reform.”
